“From the Commissioner's Desk” - Report on Last Night's County Meeting
Both the County Commissioners and the Agricultural School Board of Trustees met last night. Exciting news from both meetings:
- Approved more ARPA applications, including a significant amount for Fall River, which has reached its 100% allotment. Easton came in, as well as Dartmouth, with significant applications, nearly completing their allotment. Attleboro and New Bedford came in as well. All were approved!
- More applications for water upgrades, including fixing leaks, buying equipment to help with water projects, fire and rescue equipment purchases and upgrades.
- All good and reasonable uses – putting funds to work for you!
- Still many applications in the pipeline, including a large number submitted just before the September 30th deadline, and several to be considered on extensions, which were requested before the deadline.
- Taunton Torch: the Taunton roofing project continues. Cranes will be erected next week to get this project moving to its final completion. Once it’s done, it should look great and we will remount the Torch in its proper place in the center of Taunton.
At the Bristol County Agricultural High School, we are ready for the Fall Show, which is this Saturday and Sunday. More details to come in a future post!

Bristol County Commissioners Special Meeting
Yesterday, at a special meeting called in large part for the purpose of the Commissioners giving the go-ahead to move along two building projects important to the county, and in particular to Taunton and New Bedford, the Commissioners voted to proceed with the funding and construction of these two projects.
On the Taunton Superior Court building, the Commissioners approved the use of federal COVID money to undertake a study to determine re-installation of the very prominent Torch on that building. Additionally, the Commission also approved funding for a contract for masonry work to be done on the corner lanterns on the copper roof on that same building.
The re-installation of the Torch on the Taunton Superior Court has been moved along with substantial help from State Senator Mark Pacheco in obtaining state funds to assist with the county and federal funds also being used. That project is now moving along in its next step toward completion.
In New Bedford, at the Superior Court building on County Street, the historical renovation of the cupola on that landmark building was approved for funding to begin erecting scaffolding and getting that project underway.
These are important projects, both to the structure of the buildings themselves but more especially to the communities in which these buildings bear such a historical and prominent position.
